Some tips to ensure your Air Conditioning is kept in good order:
Carefully and slowly pour some vinegar in your drain pan located in your HVAC closet once a season. Sometimes the drain line to outside can get clogged up, causing water backup which will then force your A/C off to prevent a water spill in your Unit.
Have your A/C parodically maintained. They should clean the unit outside for any debris, dust etc
Bushes help provide shade to the units to keep them for working too hard, but it needs space to circulate air around it.
Invest in and use ceiling fans in your Unit to help keep things cool and circulate air
